Below you will find instructions for various taste and odor sample collection processes.
These samples can be collected by either using the raw water tap as it enters the building or obtaining a grab sample using a Van Dorn Sampler (or equivalent sampler) and transferring the sample into the 500 ml bottles supplied by the laboratory.
If the sample is collected directly from the reservoir using a sample device, it is recommended that the device used is cleaned thoroughly prior to use and that enough volume is obtained to fill all containers. (The cleanliness will ensure that no contamination has occurred and the appropriate volume ensures a homogeneous sample.)
Remove container caps form 40 ml glass amber vials. Do not put cap face down or in a pocket. Do not allow the inside of the cap, inside of container or bottle threads to be touched by any object.
Do not rinse bottle.
Fill sample bottles, taking care not to flush out the sample preservation reagents.
After collecting the sample, cap the bottle and agitate by hand until preservative is dissolved. Note that 2-chloroacetamide is slow to dissolve especially in cold water. Keep the sample sealed from the time of collection until submitted to the laboratory.
Samples must be chilled during shipment and must not exceed 10 °C during the first 48 hours after collection. Sample temperature will be confirmed to be at or below 10 °C when samples are received at the laboratory.

Fill sample the sample container. Samples do not need to be collected headspace free.
Samples must be chilled during shipment and must not exceed 6 °C during the first 48 hours after collection. Sample temperature will be confirmed to be at or below 6°C when samples are received at the laboratory.
