Below you will find instructions for various taste and odor sample collection processes.
Remove container caps from 40 ml glass amber vials. Do not put cap face down or in a pocket.
Do not allow the inside of the cap, inside of the container, or bottle threads, to be touched by any object.
Do not rinse bottle.
Fill each vial carefully until water is actually above the vial rim. (This will prevent the formation of an air pocket in the vial.) Gently tap the vial to dislodge any air bubbles.
Carefully hook cap over the top of the vial.
The Teflon side of the septum must be facing the sample. (Teflon side is smooth and shiny.)
Screw cap on securely. Check for air bubbles by inverting the vial and gently tapping the cap. If bubbles are present, add more water. (NOTE: Samples with bubbles cannot be analyzed.)
Samples must be chilled during shipment and must not exceed 6 °C after collection. Sample temperature will be confirmed to be at or below 6°C when samples are received at the laboratory.
In addition to the collection of the sample, a vial containing reagent water and labeled field reagent blank must be brought to each location a sample is collected. This vial is to remain closed and shipped with the samples back to the laboratory.
